Davenport Splits With Warner Southern University

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Davenport University split against Warner Southern University today, giving the Panthers their first loss of the season. DU is now 7-1 on the year and will be back in action on Saturday.

In game one both teams went scoreless until the fourth where DU scored four runs in the top of the inning. Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) singled to bring in two runs followed by a Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) double to score another two. Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) added a homerun in the fifth to put DU up 5-0 going into the bottom of the inning.

Warner would answer back with five runs of their own to tie the game up at 5-5. With the game still all tied at the end of the seventh the Panthers would head into extra innings with the international tie breaker rule in affect.

Both teams would push runs across runs in the 8th and 9th inning before DU would come up short in the tenth and Warner would walk away with the 8-7 victory. Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would get her first loss on the mound for DU.

In game two Davenport did not let the loss slow them down as they came out strong in the first scoring one run after a Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) triple followed by a Sandi Seaman (St. Claire Shores, Mich.) fielder's choice RBI.

Warner would score a run in the second before DU would add two runs in fourth and then four in the fifth to put DU up 7-1. With 14 hits in the game Davenport would walk away with the victory and Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would get her third win on the mound.

Miedema would be credited with two RBI's after a left field homerun, and Stehouwer, Brusokas, Seaman, Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.), and Jessica Fagan (Spokane, Was.) would each have two hits in the game.
