MARION, Ind. - Eleven walks and two hit batters lead to 7-4 loss to Olivet Nazarene in Indiana Wesleyan Tournament. The Panthers would then rebound in game two to defeat the host team 8-0 in five innings. DU is now 19-7 on the year and will resume play next weekend.
Game 1: Olivet Nazarene - 7 Davenport - 4
The Lady Panthers would jump out to a quick lead in the first inning when Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) would lead off with a double and then score on a Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) single. DU would then add another run in the third to take a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the fifth.
Olivet Nazarene would then add three runs in the fifth and then four more in the seventh to take the 7-2 lead. DU would try to put together a rally in the seventh inning but would come up short to end the game 7-4.
The Panthers pitching staff would combine for eleven walks, and two hit batters in the game and the offense would leave thirteen runners on base. Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) would suffer her second loss on the mound while Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) and Miedema would each have two hits in the game.
Game 2: Davenport - 8 Indiana Wesleyan - 0 (5 Innings)
Davenport would not let the morning loss affect them in game two as they would use two big run innings to defeat IWU 8-0 in five.
Jessica Fagan (Spokane, Wash.) would get a two-out single in the third and would then score off a Brusokas double to center field. Miedema would continue the two-out assault with a two-run homerun to give DU the 3-0 lead.
In the fifth Stehouwer would lead off the inning with a homerun to right field to push the lead to 4-0. After singles from Brusokas and Miedema, Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.) would add one of her own to score Brusokas. Then Kelsey Egyhazi would reach on a fielder's choice followed by a bases clearing triple from Despres to push the score to 8-0 and run rule the Wildcats.
Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would have four strikeouts and only give up three hits against Indiana Wesleyan to earn her ninth win of the year.
Davenport is now 19-7 on the year and will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Ohio to take on Malone and Ohio Dominican.
