ST CATHARINE, Ky. - Freshman Sam Cole threw the first perfect game in DU softball history today as she led the Lady Panthers to a 10-0 win in five innings over St. Catharine in Kentucky. DU followed up with a 8-1 victory in game two to improve to 11-2 on the season.

In game one the Panthers used two five run innings to run rule the host school St. Catharine. Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) and Sandi Seaman (St. Clarie Shores, Mich.) started out the second inning with back to back doubles and both would eventually score after an error by the shortstop off the bat of Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.). Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) would finish up the inning with a three run homerun over centerfield putting DU up 5-0.

In the fourth inning the Panthers would rally with five more runs to push the score to 10-0. Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) would be credited with 2 RBI's followed by one from Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Seaman.

Freshman pitcher Sam Cole would head into the bottom of the fifth inning needing just three outs for a perfect game. After a ground ball out to the short stop the next batter would send a line drive into right field which Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.) would fire to first base to save the perfect game opportunity. Cole would end the game with a ground ball to Greenfield at second giving the freshman the first ever perfect game in DU softball history. Sam would finish with six strikeouts and improve to 4-2 on the year.

In game two the Panthers would score in both the first and second inning taking the quick 3-0 lead. The bats would go quiet in the next four innings and St. Catherine would add a run of their own in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the seventh inning the Panther bats would heat up as Miedema would hit a two-run homerun, her second of the day, and Greenfield would hit a three-run homerun to put DU up 8-1. Fagan would go 3-5 in the game and Seaman, Brusokas, and Dawson would all have two hits.

Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would pick up her 6th win on the mound and Cole would be credited with the save.

Davenport is now 11-2 on the year and will continue their Kentucky road trip tomorrow against #24 Campbellsville. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
