GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After being off for a week due to inclement weather conditions the Panthers finally got a chance to play today and it would take a few innings to knock the rust off with DU prevailing 5-4 in game one and 10-0 in game two. Davenport is now 24-8 on the year and 3-1 in the WHAC.

In game one the Cardinals from Concordia would jump on the board first scoring one run in the first inning and two more in the second to go up 3-0. Davenport would start picking away at the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring two runs off an RBI single from Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) and then a sacrifice fly from Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ill.).

Both teams would go scoreless for the next three innings before Concordia would push a run across in the top of the six inning to go up 4-2. The lead would not last for long as DU would start out the sixth with a walk from Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.) and then Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) would follow that up with an RBI double to right field. The Panthers would then tie the game up 4-4 heading into the seventh inning after a Cardinal miscue.

Needing one run to win the game Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) and Morgan Greenfield(Wyoming, Mich.) would lead off the inning with back to back singles. Stehouwer would eventually score on a pass ball to give DU the 5-4 victory. Greenfield, Stehouwer, and Despres would all have two hits in the game.

Freshman Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would get her twelfth win on the mound going all seven innings giving up just four hits with seven strikeouts.

In game two the DU bats would get back on track with the Panthers scoring four runs in the first, one in both the second and third, and then four more in the fourth inning to go up 10-0 to run rule the Cardinals in five innings.

Greenfield, Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.), Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.), and Despres would all have two hits the game.

Despres would not only lead the Panthers at the plate but she would pitch a gem going five innings and giving up just two hits to earn her third win of the year.

The Panthers will be back in WHAC action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Adrian, Mich. to take on Siena Heights University for a 1:00pm doubleheader. DU will be back at home on Monday at 3:30pm to make-up a rain out game against Indiana Tech.
