Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After four rainouts last week, the Panthers and Warriors finally got two games in as Davenport swept Indiana Tech 6-3 and 4-3. The two wins lift DU to 27-9 overall and 6-2 in league action keeping them only a game behind Madonna.
Game one started and ended hot for Davenport as they posted two runs in the bottom of the first and then three in the bottom of the 6th to break a 3-3 tie.
The Warriors fought back with two runs (only one earned) in the top of the 3rd and the two teams traded runs in the bottom of the 4th and top of the 6th to make it 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th.
Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) started the rally with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) then doubled to center-field scoring Miedema. After an
Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) single,
Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.) drove home Despres.
Dawson would later score on an RBI single from
Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ill.) to complete the 3-run inning for DU.
Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) finished the Warriors off with a 1-2-3 7th inning to collect her 13th win of the year.
Game two was dominated by Davenport with the exception of one pitch which allowed Indiana Tech's three runs.
DU again jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Kristin Miedema got the bats going with a single to right center.
Ali Dawson then brought Miedema home and later scored off the bat of
Nikki Aldrich.
DU added to their lead in the bottom of the 4th when
Haley Stehouwer singled home
Nikki Aldrich to put the Lady Panthers up 3-0. Stehouwer would later hit her fourth homerun of the year in the 6th which would prove to be a huge run.
Karlee Despres was again solid on the mound for DU as she extended her scoreless streak to 21 innings during the game. Unfortunately, Despres did not post her third consecutive shutout as the sophomore was tagged for a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th inning.
Karlee rebounded to get the final Warrior to fly out to gain her fifth win of the year and help DU to the sweep.
Davenport is now 27-9 on the year and 6-2 in WHAC action. The same two teams will meet again on Wednesday in Fort Wayne beginning at 4:00 PM.
