Davenport Bats Stay Hot As DU Sweeps Aquinas 13-4 & 5-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport University finished up 6-2 in conference action this week after defeating the Saints of Aquinas 13-4 and 5-1 today. DU is now 31-11 on the year and 10-4 in conference action.
In game one Davenport used a huge second inning scoring eight runs while capitalizing on Aquinas miscues. Aquinas would answer back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning but it would be all Davenport the rest of the game.
The Panthers would add another run in the third inning off an RBI double from Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.). They would follow that up with two more runs in the fourth off back to back doubles from Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) and Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.), and then an RBI single from Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ill.).
With the score 11-4 heading into the sixth Dawson with connect with a two-run in the inning to put DU up 13-4 and give the Panthers the run-rule victory in the sixth inning.
Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) would get her sixth win on the mound after entering in the bottom of the third inning, pitching four complete innings giving up just two hits with seven strikeouts.
In game two the Panthers would again strike first in the second inning, before adding four more in fourth inning to go up 5-0.
Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) and Despres would connect for back to back homeruns in the fourth followed up by RBI singles from Dawson and Aldrich. Aquinas would add a run in the fifth but that would be all that Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would give up on the day to give DU the 5-1 victory.
Carpenter would earn her eleventh win on the mound giving up just four hits with five strikeouts.
With the victories today DU is now 31-11 overall and 10-4 in WHAC play. Davenport will be back in action on Monday in a non-conference doubleheader against Calvin College. Game time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
