GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the third straight game the Lady Panthers have only needed five innings to earn victories after a doubleheader sweep of Cornerstone, 10-0 (5) and 12-3 (5). Davenport still sits second in the conference at 17-7 and are now 40-14 overall.
Senior Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) continued to stay hot as she leaded off the first game with a solo homerun to left field. DU would add another run in the first off an RBI single from Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) to go up 2-0.
Back to back doubles in the second from Sandi Seaman (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) and Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) would add another run on the board for DU before they would explode for five more in the third. Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ind.) would account for three RBI's in the inning after hitting a three-run homerun to centerfield.
Up 8-0 DU would go scoreless in the fourth before Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would hit a 2 RBI single in the fifth to seal the 10-0 victory.
Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would pitch a shut-out gem on the mound, giving up just four hits in five innings of work and earning her nineteenth victory on the mound.
Game two would be the same story for the Panthers as they would use big third and fifth innings to earn a record 40th victory for the second year program.
Up 2-0 in the third the Panther offense would push five runs across with RBI's from Dawson, Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.), and Aldrich. They would add another in the fourth to go up 8-1 and then four more in the fifth with RBI's from Stehouwer, Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.), and Kristina Krum (Kalamazoo, Mich.) to run rule the Eagles 12-3.
Carpenter would earn her twelfth victory on the mound pitching all five innings and giving up just three hits.
Davenport would combine for 26 hits on the day from 11 different Lady Panthers.
DU will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for a 4:00pm doubleheader against Concordia University.
