Baseball Team Ends Season with Three Straight Losses to Cedarville

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score | Game 3 Box Score

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Aftter just missing out on the WHAC Tournament, the Panthers traveled to Cedarville, OH for three non-conference games to finish their 2010 campaign.  Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets still had a post-season berth to play for as they swept DU 13-2, 7-6 and 5-2 over the last two days.

Thursday's game saw an unmotivated Panthers squad give up a big early lead as they fell 13-2 in seven innings of a scheduled 9-inning contest. Ryan Lind (Grandville, Mich.) suffered the loss as it was the second defeat in a row for DU.

The two games today were much closer but the Panthers still found themselves on the losing end.  Game one ended with a score of 7-6 and game two was 5-2 in favor of CU.

Game one saw both starting pitchers cruise through the first four innings as DU held a slim 2-1 lead.  The bats then came out for Cedarville to take their first lead of the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth off DU starter Andy Westerburg (Spring Lake, Mich.).

The Panthers responded though and regained the lead with a 3-spot in the top of the 6th but they could not hold onto it as Greg Bartlett (Hemlock, Mich.) took the loss in relief.

Travis Laver (Holland, Mich.), Matt McNeil (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) and James Folske (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) all finished with two hits in the game.

Game two was very similar to the first as the pitching dominated the first few innings.  Jarrett Luyk (Hudsonville, Mich.) was unable to get by though without giving up a run in each of his three innings pitched but escaped further damage on the mound with key strikeouts.

The DU offense never really got it going as they managed only four hits in the game with two of them coming from Travis Laver.

Luyk suffered his fifth loss of the year in another tough luck game for the sophomore hurler.

Davenport ends their season with an overall record of 21-28.
