Miedema Lifts Lady Panthers into Showdown with #23 Madonna at WHAC Tourney

BOX SCORE | WHAC Tourney Page

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Davenport won their 8th game in a row and 10th of last 11 with a decisive 6-0 shutout of UM-Dearborn in the WHAC Tournament.  The Lady Panthers, now 45-14 on the year, take on #23 Madonna University in the winner's bracket final at 7:30 PM.

#3 seed UM-Dearborn earned the right to play Davenport with an 11-3 (6 innings) win over Cornerstone but the Lady Panthers quickly put aside the confidence of the Wolves.  Davenport used a three run first inning and followed with one in the second and two more in the 5th for the win.

Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) got the first started with a single and DU followed with three more hits in their next three batters.  Kristin Miedema (Newaygo, Mich.) came up with the big hit as the senior drove home two runs and Kristina Krum (Kalamazoo, Mich.) followed with an RBI sac fly.

Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) then picked up an RBI in the second inning as the junior drove home Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ill.) who started the inning with a single to left field.

The scoring was completed in the 5th inning when Miedema picked up two more RBI with a 2-run homerun to left center.  The shot was her 12th of the year and it gave starting pitcher Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) more than enough for her 21st win of the year.

Cole pitched a complete game shutout which was her fifth of the year and struck out nine batters along the way while allowing only four hits.

Davenport improves to 45-14 on the year and will take on #23 Madonna University in the winner's bracket final.  The Crusaders advanced via a 5-1 win over Indiana Tech in the other semifinal.  Davenport and Madonna split their season series with each taking a game on the road.
