May 13 - WHAC Outdoor Championships @ Houseman Field

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Carleton Hunter earned the most points by an individual on the men's side as he led the Panthers to a 5th place finish at the WHAC Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Houseman Field.  The DU women also finished 5th place as the two teams will now focus on Nationals in late May in Marion, IN.

After getting rained out last Friday, the six WHAC schools made their way to Grand Rapids where the Aquinas men and women made it a sweep by winning both team titles.  The DU men and women finished 5th as numerous athletes gained valuable experience.

Carleton Hunter (South Haven, Mich.) led the way on the men's side as he earned the title as WHAC Most Valuable Athlete by scoring the most points for his team.  Hunter totaled 23.5 points after winning the Javelin, finishing second in the 100m, third in the 200m and was part of the third place finish from the 4X400m relay.

CJ Davis (Ada, MIch.) finished second in the triple jump and Jason Cogswell (Byron Center, Mich.) finished runner-up in the hammer throw.  The distance for Cogswell moved the sophomore into the Top-10 nationally for the Outdoor Nationals later in May.

On the women's side, there were no champions but the team did finish with five second place finishes led by two from junior Jess Roodvoets (Caledonia, Mich.).  Jess posted runner-up finishes in the long jump and the 400m hurdles.

Also finishing second for DU were Janelle Bagneski (Lake Mills, Wis.) in the 400m, Amy VanEns (Lowell, Mich.) in the high jump and Julie Janish (Whittemore, Mich.) in the javelin.

The team will next compete in the NAIA Outdoor National Championships during the final week in May at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind.
