DEERFIELD, Ill. - Davenport picked up their first win of the 2010 season today as they scored two unanswered goals to defeat Trinity International 2-1 on the road. DU is now 1-2-0 on the year and will travel to Sioux Falls on Thursday before returning on Saturday to host Mt Vernon Nazarene.
After a grueling road trip to Tennessee and Alabama resulted in two close losses, the Panthers hit the road once again to take on Trinity International just outside of Chicago.
The two teams played a scoreless first half that saw almost identical stats across the board for each side. DU posted three shots which was just one less than the host school but the Panthers had two more chances on corner kicks.
TIU then got the scoring started in the 56th minute as they took a 1-0 lead. Davenport did not buckle under the pressure however as freshman
Michael Ricketts (Tamworth, England) scored the first goal of his career on an assist from
Carl Winterbottom (Coventry, England) just eight minutes after falling behind.
Alex Boehm (Stevensville, Mich.) then picked up what would turn into the game winning goal at the 73:44 mark on a great goal after breaking through the defense on a pass from
Jesse Asanin-Miroux (Thornhill, Ontario) to put DU up 2-1.
The defense held strong in front of DU keeper
Kevin O'Brien (Cork, Ireland) as the Panthers posted their first win of the young season.
Davenport is now 1-2-0 on the year and will travel to South Dakota on Thursday to take on the University of Sioux Falls. The Panthers will host Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday in a game that you can follow along with live stats and chat as well as listen to a play by play on the DAN.
