Patrick Grashorn Hired as Women's Tennis Coach

Grashorn will guide the Lady Panthers in 2010-2011

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After an extensive search, Davenport University Athletic Director Paul Lowden announced earlier this week that Patrick Grashorn has been hired to become the new women's tennis coach. Grashorn takes over the program as they begin their second season in 2010-2011.

“We are very pleased to have Patrick join the Davenport athletic staff, stated Paul Lowden.  His experience and knowledge of the game will benefit such a young program and hopefully take it to the highest of levels. We feel he will be an outstanding addition to Panther athletics.”

After graduating from Rockford High School, Grashorn moved on to play collegiately at Aquinas College where he served as the team captain in 2006 and 2007.  Upon graduation, Grashorn has worked as a tennis professional at MVP Sportsplex and also as a volunteer assistant at East Grand Rapids High School.

“What excites me about taking over this team is the prospect of turning a second year program into a tennis powerhouse, commented Grashorn. Davenport University has a reputation of academic and athletic excellence and it is my aim to add women's tennis to the list of national contenders.”

Davenport started its women's tennis program in 2009-2010 under the direction of head coach Doug White.  The Lady Panthers posted a season record of 6-8 and now White will oversee just the men's program.

“I expect a strong showing this year based on the quality work ethic of the incoming freshmen and transfers, added Grashorn. Combine that with the experience of our returning players and captains, and there is no reason we shouldn't be a force to deal with in our region.”

Patrick is a 2007 graduate of Aquinas College where he received his degree in Biology.  He is married to Nikki and together they live in Grand Rapids.
