FORT WAYNE, Ind. - #15 Indiana Tech was too much for Davenport on Thursday night as they dealt the Lady Panthers their first three set loss of the year 25-19. 25-19, 25-18. Davenport (9-6, 1-1 WHAC) will finally host a game on Saturday when they welcome Siena Heights to the Student Center at 1:00 PM.
In their previous five losses this season. Davenport had never been swept in three sets but tonight that streak came to an end as the 15th ranked Warriors defeated DU to improve to 3-0 in the WHAC.
Indiana Tech (8-4, 3-0 WHAC) got off to a sizzling start in the opening set as the home team jumped out to a 6-0 lead and then increased the margin to as many as eight before Davenport rallied towards the end of the set. DU's offense struggled most of the night but it particularly hurt them in set #1 as they hit for a -.136% while falling 25-19.
Looking for a better start in the second set, DU was again unable to put together solid runs as the Warriors jumped on top 9-3. The run by Tech was highlighted by four errors from DU but the Lady Panthers hung together and closed to within three at 16-13 behind a kill from
Brittany Bott (Hudsonville, Mich.)
The lead would hover around the same margin for most of the remainder of the set with DU picking up kills from
Nicole Chase (Caledonia, Mich.),
Joyce Larioza (Fowlerville, Mich.) and Bott but they could never get within three as they fell 25-19.
Trying to stay alive in the third set, Davenport did not let the Warriors start so strong as the teams traded points for most of the first ten. DU got consistent offense from Larioza, Chase as well as
Kassie Graves (White Cloud, Mich.) but could not take a lead after the score was 3-2 in their favor.
With the lead of 12-11, the Warriors used a 6-1 run to push the lead to six points and put DU in a deep hole that they would never crawl out of.
Kelse Moon (Fremont, Mich.) led a late rally for Davenport as the sophomore posted three kills in a four point run for DU to bring the score to 18-17 but it would be as close as they would get eventually falling 25-18.
Moon led the Lady Panthers with six kills and she was followed by Graves and Bott who chipped in four each. DU finished the match hitting just .043 compared to .152 for the Warriors. Tech was led by reigning WHAC Player of the Year Ashley Hamilton who finished with 15 kills.
