Panthers Fall 4-2 to Host Southern Connecticut

DU gains valuable experience while playing two of the nation's best in Connecticut

Box Score

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Panthers suffered a 4-2 loss Sunday afternoon to Southern Connecticut State University, after giving up a late goal in the third period. An empty net goal with under 1 minute remaining would end any chance Davenport had of coming back for the win. With the loss, DU's record falls to 20-9 on the season.

In the first period, the Panthers found the back of the net first on a power play when a Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) wristshot beat the goalie at 15:27. The Owls would follow with their own goal to even the score at 1-1.

Davenport would fall behind in the second period after the Owls scored on a power play, but the lead would not last long as Waldhart continued to have the hot hand, scoring his second goal of the game to tie the score back up at two goals each.

The third period was the difference in the game, when SCSU scored halfway through the period. The Panthers tried to rally back, but their scoring opportunities could not find the goal.

The Panthers finished their three-game weekend 1-2 with both losses coming in Hamden, Conn. Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) had a hot stick on the weekend tallying five goals in the three games (1 SVSU, 2 FSC, 2 SCSU).

The Panthers return home to Patterson Ice Center next weekend to take on IPFW in a two-game series. The first game is Friday at 8:00 p.m., with the second game set to faceoff Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
