Farmingdale State Ends DU's 7-Game Winning Streak with 4-3 Victory in Shootout

Panthers take on Southern Connecticut State today

Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. - The Panthers suffered their first defeat in their last eight games, falling in a shootout 4-3 to Farmingdale State College in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, DU's record drops to 20-8 on the season and remains 9-3 in conference play.
In a rematch from last season's National Tournament, the Panthers got on the scoreboard first with a Justin Welker (Speedway, Ind.) goal at the 7:57 mark of the first period. A Ram power play goal tied the game up, but Welker would add his second goal of the game, off a rebound in the crease at 13:28, to give Davenport the lead going into the first intermission at 2-1.
Davenport continued to find the back of the net at the start of the second period. Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) scored on a power play to increase the Panthers' lead to 3-1.
After a 20 minute delay to fix damage to a sideboard, the Rams came out with two quick goals to tie the score up at 3-3 after two periods. In the last 20 minutes of regulation, neither team could capitalize on scoring opportunities. Regulation ended with the score still deadlocked at 3 goals apiece.
A 5 minute, 4-on-4 overtime also saw neither team scoring, so the game went to a shootout. In the shootout, the Rams first two shooters tallied goals, while the Panthers' two players could not put the puck in the net.
Davenport returns to the ice on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.to face Southern Connecticut State University to close out their weekend road trip.
