GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Bryon Guerin recorded a hat-trick as Davenport's D3 hockey team recorded the final four goals in a convincing 7-2 win over visiting Lawrence Tech.  The Panthers are now 18-7 on the year as they will host Delta College on Sunday at 8:00pm at Patterson Ice Center.

The scoring started early and often for the Panthers as Zack Feher (Livonia, Mich.) and Brandon Madaj (Newaygo, Mich.) put DU up 2-0 in the opening five minutes of play. After a goal from the visitors cut the lead in half, assistant captain Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) picked up a nice goal with less then 2:30 to play.

Unfortunately the defense did not hold up as the final few seconds ticked away in the first and LT scored the final goal of the period with 22 seconds on the clock and DU held a 3-2 advantage after one period.

Another fast start to the second gave the Panthers all of the momentum they would need however as Justin Welker (Speedway, Ind.) got the scoring started on a nice break-away goal to put DU back in front by two goals. Just a few minutes later, Bryon Guerin (Jackson, Mich.) scored the first of his three goals on a rebound put-back and the Panthers led by three after two periods of play.

Guerin kept his hot-streak going in the final period as the second year forward poured in two more goals for the hat-trick in the 7-2 win.

John Cruse (Shelby Twp, Mich.) got the win in net for Davenport as the netminder allowed just the two first period goals.  The win gives DU some momentum as they start the second semester.  The Panthers will host Delta College on Sunday at 8:00pm. Live stats will be available for the game.
