GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport D3 hockey team skated hard throughout regulation, but so did Oakland.  Davenport used overtime to take their Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference game versus conference foe Oakland late Saturday afternoon.

Both goalies seemed to want to steal the show early as DU's John Cruse and Oakland's Anthony Munoz combined to face 16 shots in the first period, neither letting in a goal.

The scoring took over in the second period as the two teams netted three goals in the stanza.  The Golden Grizzlies stuck first with a goal by Simpson at the 13:46 mark.  Oakland and DU would trade goals the rest of the way in the second period as Oakland's Lauro would score on the power play with two seconds left in the period.  DU had gotten a goal from Zack Feher assisted by Zachary Bodziak with less than a 90 seconds left in the period to knot the score at 1-1.

Davenport struck early in the third period with a power play goal from Leo Donovan assisted by Bryon Guerin and Sam Waldhart to tie the score at 2-2.  Davenport then looked to own momentum as they netted their third goal when Mike Soto set up Guerin to give DU the 3-2 edge with 8:15 left in the game.  Oakland however would find the equalizer when Lauro lit the lamp once again for Oakland.  Game tied at 3-3, each team put on one last rush to no avail as the game would go to overtime.

With overtime came the return of the goalies dominating just like the first period.  However,  DU struck with 15 seconds to play in the extra time as Waldhart found Guerin with an assist on the game winning goal.
