GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - For the seventh time this season, Davenport had to go extra time and for the fifth time, they came away with a draw. The Panthers and Aquinas Saints played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams. The tie puts Davenport's overall record at 4-9-5 and the Panthers are 3-1-2 in league action.
Davenport will enter the WHAC Tournament next Saturday as the No. 3 seed after a tie-breaker procedure and the Panthers will host a quarterfinal game at a time still to be determined. DU will be looking for their second straight tournament title and third in the past seven years.
An uneventful first half saw neither team get credit for a shot on goal as the defense for both teams was outstanding. The second 45 minutes saw much more action with each team getting some decent runs at the winning goal but the keepers were up to the task.
DU's
Kevin O'Brien and AQ's Jesse Guevara-Lehker directed action and sent the game into overtime. DU, playing in their seventh extra time game of the year, started strong and had two great chances within the first minute with
Gerard John-Williams' header going just off the keeper's hands.
The Saints took the ball shortly after and seemed to have a break away to post the game winner, but O'Brien made a huge save to keep the game scoreless. Davenport had two more great chances during the two overtimes, but twice hit the cross bar or post and the score remained 0-0 after 110 minutes.
