Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. - Third ranked Davenport saw their nine game win streak come to an end Friday night at the hands of forth ranked Oakland University. Davenport received an early goal from
Leo Donovan, and then saw Oakland score ten straight goals. Davenport will face Oakland again on Saturday at Patterson Ice Center.
Davenport faced off against Oakland in a non-conference match on Friday night looking to extend their win streak to double digits.
The Panthers got off to a good start early in the first period scoring the game's first goal on the power play.
Sam Waldhart slid a pass across the blue line to
Leo Donovan, who sneaked the puck just inside the post.
The lead didn't last long as Oakland quickly rebounded with two goals of their own to give the Golden Grizzlies a 2-1 lead heading into the 2
nd period.
Oakland came out in the 2
nd period and increased their lead to two goals, with a goal just three minutes into the period.
Davenport kept on fighting, but penalties plagued their chance of a comeback. The Panthers gave Oakland two 5 on 3 power plays in the 2
nd. Oakland capitalized on one the 5 on 3 power plays and took a 4-1 lead into the final period.
The final period was one to forget for the Panthers. Once again, penalties and turnovers hurt Davenport. Oakland added a power play goal with 10:10 left in the period to give the grizzlies a 6-1 lead. The last 5 minutes of the period is when the wheels started to come off for Davenport. Oakland netted 4 goals in the final 5 minutes to defeat the Panthers 10-1.
