WHAC Tournament Bracket
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport University picked up their first post-season win in school history tonight with a 3-0 sweep of Lourdes in the quarterfinal round of the 2011 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament that is being hosted by Aquinas College. Davenport improves to 22-14 on the year which sets a school record for wins in a single season.
Kassie Graves and
Brittany Bott led a potent Davenport offense with 12 and 10 kills respectively while the Panther defense limited the Gray Wolves to just 21 kills on .000 hitting. DU finished the game with two solo blocks and 12 assist blocks while three players posted double-digit digs led by
Courtney DePriest with 18.
The opener saw Davenport race out to an 11-4 lead while collecting two kills from
Nicole Chase and one each from three other players. DU increased their lead to as many as 20-10 before closing out the Wolves 25-15. Set two was much closer with Lourdes jumping ahead 8-1 before
DU rallied to tie the game with seven straight points. The Panthers then scored 9 of the next 12 points to take full charge at 17-11 and cruised to the 25-20 win.
In the final set, the Panthers took an 11-9 lead and increased it to 18-10 thanks to three straight kills from
Hannah Stone and
Brittany Bott. A
Kassie Graves kill put DU up by 10 at 24-14 and they closed it out with a second kill from Graves for the 25-15 win.
Davenport now has one more hurdle to clear (Northwestern Ohio) on Saturday at 2:30pm and with a win, the team will advance to its first ever WHAC Final 4 that will be hosted by regular season champion Indiana Tech Nov. 11-12.
