WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Davenport improved their record to 2-3 with a 7-6 win over Brandeis University (Mass.) in Winter Haven FL today. The game took place at the Chain O' Lakes Stadium which used to be the home spring training complex for the Cleveland Indians.
After a tough loss to Warner University to open the spring break trip to Florida on Monday, the Panthers returned to the diamond on Tuesday where they competed against NCAA D3 Brandies University.
After a scoreless opening two frames, the Panthers, who were the visiting team, struck first in the top half of the third when
Derrick Gentile (Sturgis, Mich.) continued his early season surge with an RBI single to bring home
Rob Bolster.
BU came back with a pair of runs in the bottom half but Davenport quickly got the score back to even in the top of the fourth when
Joe Freist (Shepherd, Mich.) hit a solo shot. The score would remain that way unitl the bottom of fhe fifth when Brandeis struck again as they plated two runs on three hits when ended the day of DU starter

The Panthers got one run back in the top of the seventh when
Rob Bolster (Blissfield, Mich.) came up with an RBI ground out to make the score 5-3 but the Judges got the run right back with one of their own in the bottom half to up their lead back to three runs at 6-3.
The dramatic then happened for the second day in a row in the eighth for Davenport and after an RBI single from
Joe Freist (Shepherd, Mich.) brought home Gentile,
Dan Brown (Bay City, Mich.) stepped up and belted a three-run shot to give DU the lead at 7-6.
Jarrett Luyk (Hudsonville, Mich.) came in for the final inning and shut down Brandeis to pick up his second save of the season.
Zak Gonzalez (Comstock Park, Mich.), who pitched the sixth and seventh innings got the win to lift the senior's record to 1-0 on the year.
Davenport faces off against Brandeis once again today at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, FL.
