Panthers Drop Two Games to Warner University

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

LAKE WHALES, Fla. – After recording their first two victories yesterday in the sunshine state, Davenport was unable to pick a win today falling 5-3 and 5-4 to Warner University. Davenport is now 2-7 on the year and will continue play on Saturday at the NTC Spring Games.

Game one of the doubleheader saw Warner jump out to a quick 4-0 lead after just two innings of play. Davenport would threaten in the second and then push two runs across in the top of the third off a double from Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.).

After a scoreless fourth DU would bring the Warner lead to just one after an RBI single from Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.) to score pinch runner Amber Getty (Wayland, Mich.) from second base.

Unfortunately that would be as close as the Panthers would get with Warner increasing their lead to 5-3 in the fifth and DU unable to execute in the final two innings of the game.

Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would earn the loss in the game with DU leaving eight runners on base compared to Warner's four.

In game two DU would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead off a RBI single from Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.). Warner would once again answer back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the 3-1 lead.

Warner would add another run in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead to three runs heading into the fifth when DU would put together a rally.

Debra Burton (Cassopolis, Mich.) would reach base on a walk and then advance to second on a single by Olsen. Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.) would come up big with a 2 RBI single to cut the Warner lead to just one. After an intentional walk to Brusokas, Brianna Carpenter would connect on an RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

Davenport would have runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings but would be unable to push one across. Warner would add a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the 5-4 victory.

Davenport will have Friday off before competing in the NTC Spring games on Saturday against Grove City, Augustana, and Concordia College (Minn.). All games can be heard live on THE DAN, with live stats available on www.dupanthers.com.
