D3 Panthers Defeat Hope 4-2; Advance to MCHC Tourney Title Game

Post-season honors also announced as DU lands four on 2nd team

Box Score MCHC Post-Season Honors

MIDLAND, Mich. - The D3 Panthers opened up the MCHC post-season tournament with a 7-3 win over GVSU on Thursday and followed it with an impressive 4-2 win over No. 1 Hope on Friday. Davenport will take on No. 2 Saginaw Valley State on Saturday at 3:15pm as the conference also announced their post-season honors.

Davenport seems to be peaking at the right time as they picked up one of their biggest wins of the season on Friday downing the top overall seed Flying Dutchmen 4-2.  The Panthers and Cardinals will meet on Saturday for the tourney title.

The Panthers, who recently earned the North Region No. 3 seed for the upcoming National Tournament got off to a fast start against Hope when Jordan Steger (Caledonia, Mich.) scored in the first on assists from Garrett Russell (Midland, Mich.)and Zack Feher (Livonia, Mich.).

A Hope goal was the only tally in the second making the score 1-1 heading into the third and that is where Davenport dominated the Flying Dutchmen.

Jake Williams (Jenison, Mich.) scored the first goal on helpers from Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.) and Garrett Garber (Cadillac, Mich.) and that was followed by an unassisted tally from Chad Ouellette.  Hope did get within 3-2 but a late open net goal from Panther Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.) made the final outcome of 4-2.

The MCHC also announced its post-season honors as Davenport landed four guys on the 2nd team.  Goaltender John Cruse (Shelby Twp, Mich.) headlined the team and was joined by Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.), John Brooks (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Mike Soto (Muskegon, Mich.).
