Box Score Game Scoring
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Sam Waldhart's two goals would not be enough as the Davenport D3 Ice Hockey team fell to No. 1 ranked Hope 6-2. With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 24-10 and 9-4 in the MCHC.
The Panthers had two power play opportunities in the early part of the first period, but DU could not capitalize. The Flying Dutchmen, however, would score on their two first period power plays to pull ahead 2-0 after one period.
Hope added another power play goal early in the second period to up the score to 3-0. Just 47 seconds later, the Dutchman tallied their first non-power play goal for a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers would fight back, scoring a power play goal of their own on a Sam Waldhart (Walker, Mich.) wrist shot from the top of the circle to cut the deficit to 4-1 at 6:38. Late in the second period, Hope would add another goal, once again on a power play, to make the score 5-1 going into the second intermission.
In the final stanza, the Dutchmen tallied their sixth goal to up their lead to 6-1. The Panthers would try to get back into the game when Waldhart scored his second goal off the game off a Taylor Keyworth (Grand Rapids, Mich.) helper for a 6-2 score.
The two teams will play once again tomorrow night at the Edge Ice Arena in Holland, Mich. Faceoff is set for 8:30 p.m.
