Union Box Score | Central Baptist Box Score | Union (2) Box Score

JACKSON, Tenn. – Davenport dropped all three games today on the first day of the Union University tournament. DU was defeated 4-3 and 9-7 by #24 Union University and 7-3 by Central Baptist College. The Panthers are now 5-10 on the year and will take on both teams once again tomorrow.

In game one against Union University, Davenport jumped on the board early in the first with a solo homerun to left field by Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.). The Panthers would increase their lead to 2-0 in the third off a sacrifice fly ball by Cirina Jones (Middleton, Mich.) to score Brusokas from third. The 2-0 lead would not last for long as Union would capitalize on a costly DU error and score three runs in the bottom of the inning.

With a scoreless fourth, Union would score another unearned run in the fifth to increase their lead to 4-2. Davenport would continue to fight, scoring in the top of the sixth off a solo homerun from Debra Burton (Cassopolis, Mich.) to cut the Union lead to just one.

DU would be unable to push another run across and suffer the 4-3 loss in their first game of the day. Davenport would commit three errors in the game, while leaving ten runners on base along with giving up four unearned runs.

In game two Davenport would take on 20-0 Central Baptist who would jump out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Panthers would put together a rally in the third starting with back to back walks to Amber Getty (Wayland, Mich.) and Brusokas before loading the bases after Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would reach on an error. Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.) would then have a two RBI single to right field, followed by a RBI single from Burton to give DU the 3-2 lead.

Unfortunately that would be all the scoring for DU as they would give up runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh to suffer the 7-3 loss. Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would earn the loss on the mound with the Panthers only having five hits in the game and committing two errors.

To complete the day, Davenport would take on Union University again in which they saw themselves fall behind 9-0 after the second inning. In the top of the third DU would attempt to chip away at the lead with a three-run homerun by Brusokas.

Both teams would go scoreless in the fourth, with Davenport adding four more runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 9-7. Down by two, the Panthers would be unable to push any more runs across having just three hits in the game.

DU's three losses on the day puts them at 5-10 on the year with two more games tomorrow in the Union University tournament. DU will take on Union at 11:00am and Central Baptist at 1:00pm. Live stats and live video will be available for both games.
