Morgan Greenfield sparked the Panthers in the bottom of the eighth inning with a two run walk-off homerun to give DU a 3-2 victory over Union College. Davenport also recorded a 3-0 win in game two against IU Southeast to finish 2-0 on the day and improve to 8-11 on the year.
In game one against Union College both teams went scoreless into the third inning. Union would add an unearned run in the third to take the early 1-0 lead. Davenport would answer right back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI sacrifice fly from
Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.) to score
Debra Burton (Cassopolis, Mich.) from third.
The tie would continue until the eighth inning when the international tie breaker would come into effect. Union would capitalize with the extra runner on second to take the 2-1 lead into the bottom of the inning.
With a runner on third and one out,
Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) would come to the plate and hit a walk-off two run homerun to left field to give DU the 3-2 victory. The homerun would be only the third hit of the day for DU with
Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) pitching eight complete innings to earn her fifth victory on the mound.
Davenport would use the momentum for game two in which they would use three one run innings to capture a 3-0 victory. Senior pitcher
Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would throw a complete game shut-out giving up just four hits on the day.
The Panthers would have seven hits in the game with Olsen going 2-3 with an RBI and
Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) finishing 3-3 with a double and triple. The win would be Carpenter's third of the year with
Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) competing in her first game of the year finishing 1-4 from the plate with an RBI.
