Davenport Splits on Final Day of Campbellsville/Lindsey Wilson Classic

Lindsey Wilson Box Score | Martin Methodist Box Score | Video Highlights

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Morgan Greenfield would get the game winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to give DU a 6-5 victory over Martin Methodist to complete their weekend tournament in Kentucky. DU would fall earlier in the day 4-2 to Lindsey Wilson in nine innings to put them at 9-12 overall on the season.

The first game of the day against Lindsey Wilson proved to be a pitchers dual with both teams going scoreless until the sixth inning. Liz Veltman (Grand Ledge, Mich.) would then put the Panthers on the board in the top of the sixth with a solo homerun to left center. An unearned run in the bottom of the sixth for Lindsey Wilson would even the score up at 1-1.

At the end of seven innings the score would remain 1-1 in which the international tie breaker rule would come into affect for both teams. DU would strike first in extra innings with a run in the top of the ninth to take a 2-1 lead when Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.) doubled down the left-field line to score Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) from third.

With the game down to its potential final out, Lindsey Wilson would send a ball over the fence for the 4-2 walk-off victory. Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) would suffer her first loss on the mound with DU only having five hits and two errors in the loss.

Davenport's bats would heat up in game two against Martin Methodist with DU erupting for thirteen hits, their most in one game this season.

Up 5-1 after four complete innings, DU would allow three runs in the fifth and then one more in the sixth to tie it all up at 5-5 heading into the seventh inning. With one out Brusokas would double to center followed by a single to right field from Despres to put runners on first and third.

After hitting a walk-off homerun yesterday, Morgan Greenfield (Wyoming, Mich.) would come to the plate and deliver again. She would hit a hard ground ball to the third baseman who would throw it away at first base and allow Brusokas to score the game winner from third.

Eight of the nine starters for the Panthers would record a hit in the game with Brusokas finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Despres, Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.), and Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) would each finish with two hits in the game as well.

Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would pick up the win on the mound for DU, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings with a strikeout.

Davenport finished the Campbellsville/Lindsey Wilson Classic 3-1 on the weekend, putting them 9-12 overall. The Panthers will be back in action next Friday when they travel down to Ohio to take on Rio Grande in a 3:00pm doubleheader. Live stats and live audio will be available for both games.
