Despres’ No-Hitter Highlights Panthers' Sweep of Concordia

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score | Video Highlights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior Karlee Despres tossed her fourth career no-hitter today with a 7-0 victory in the nightcap of a conference doubleheader with Concordia. DU also collected a 10-9 win in game one to give the Panthers a perfect 4-0 record over the Cardinals this season.

On a day that no other WHAC teams played, Davenport would battle the elements in game one escaping with a 10-9 victory. DU would have twelve hits in the game with Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.), Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.), and Katie Cornman (Eastpointe, Mich.) each connecting on homeruns. Cornman would finish the day 3-3 from the plate with Ashlee Olsen having three hits as well.

Sam Cole (Belleville, Mich.) would come in for the Panthers in the second inning to earn her fifteenth victory on the mound collecting nine strikeouts in five and two thirds innings of work.

Game two would be a different story with Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) shutting down a team that had eleven hits in the previous game. After struggling on the mound in her last two appearances, Despres would find her command and control on the mound to record eight strikeouts and only walk one batter in game two.

DU's offense continued to stay hot with twelve hits again in game two, scoring four runs in the first, another in the second, and then two more in the fourth. Carpenter would finish a perfect 4-4 from the plate with three RBI's and a double with Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.), Liz Veltman (Grand Ledge, Mich.), and Brusokas each recording two hits as well.

The no-hitter would be the first of the season for Karlee but her second career against Concordia. As a freshman she led DU to their first WHAC victory of the program with a no-hitter over the Cardinals.

The wins improves Davenport to 29-14 overall and 16-2 in WHAC play. DU will be back in conference action on Wednesday, April 20th when they travel across town to take on Aquinas College for a 4:00pm doubleheader.
