Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. - Davenport and Siena Heights finally got on the field today after being rained out on Saturday and the two teams each came away with a a victory in cool and windy conditions.  Davenport, now 23-12 overall and 6-4 in the WHAC, won the first game 10-3 before falling 8-7 in the nightcap.  DU will take on Calvin College on Tuesday at 3:00pm.

Game one was dominated by the big innings for both teams as Davenport scored all 10 of their runs in frames 4-6 while the Saints got on the board with two in the second and a single run in the 5th.

After falling behind 2-0 on back to back homeruns from the home team, Davenport started chipping away at the lead with an RBI ground out from Drew Kennedy (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) that scored Matt McNeil (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) who opened the inning with a triple.

The fifth inning became a breakout one for the Panthers as they plated six runs.  Rob Bolster (Blissfield, Mich.) opened with a double that was followed by a bunt single from Travis Laver (Holland, Mich.).  After a sac fly by Brandon Bongard (Grand Rapids, Mich.) tied the game, DU broke it open with five more runs.

Kennedy picked up two more RBI and Derrick Gentile (Sturgis, Mich.) hit a three-run blast that scored Ron Sanders (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) and Kennedy to put Davenport on top 7-2.  The Saints did come back with a single run in the bottom of the fifth but DU added three more in the sixth with Kennedy picking up his fourth run batted in of the game.

Tucker Gernhard (Stafford, Va.) earned the win on the mound as the senior improved to 4-1 on the year after going five innings and allowing six hits, three runs (2 earned) and striking out five.

Game two was much more of a what if game for the Panthers as they had their chance to take home a series sweep but were unable to come up with the big hit with runners in scoring position.  Davenport was just 4-15 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base in the 8-7 loss.

DU again fell behind early, this time by a single run in the second inning but the Panthers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half when Mike Allen (Midland, Mich.) and Jordan Bigger (Rockford, Ill.) each doubled home runs for a 2-1 lead after two innings.

The Saints got the lead right back in the top of the third with three runs of their own and that score would hold until Davenport came to the offensive in the fifth with two runs to tie the score at 4-4.  But again the home team came up big by taking a 7-4 lead with three more runs in the 6th.

After Davenport got two within two in the sixth, the Panthers picked up two more critical runs in the seventh on a solo homerun from Allen and an  RBI double from Bigger to tie the score.

Siena Heights came up with one last big run though as they brought across the game winner in the 8th inning off of Colton Loomis (Alma, Mich.).

The loss drops Davenport to 23-12 on the year and 6-4 in league action. The Panthers play at Calvin on Tuesday in a single 9-inning game and then travel to Northwood on Wednesday.
