CANTON, Mich. - Davenport just missed out on qualifying for their third NAIA Championship in the last four years but a close match play title match went down to the wire and not in the Panthers favor. Davenport fell 3.5-2.5 to Cornerstone as their 2010-11 season comes to a close.
Davenport advanced to the title match with two wins over Northwestern Ohio and Indiana Tech on Friday but it was the close matches today that did not go there way as they fell by the slimmest of margins.
The Panthers got wins from
Kale Waaso (South Haven, Mich.) - 5 and 3 and
Jackson Davison (Rockford, Mich.) - 2up but they mananged only 0.5 points from the other four.
Cam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.) and
Kevin Palmer (Sarnia, Ontario) each dropped 1-up matches while
Jordan Phillips (Swartz Creek, Mich.) came back from a few down to halve his match.
The Panthers, who finished second in the regular season in the fall, end their 2010-11 campaign.
All-WHAC Honors were announced at the conclusion with
Cam Thomas and
Kale Waaso each earning 1st Team honors.
Jackson Davison and
Kevin Palmer each earned Honorable Mention Honors.
