ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the second straight week, the No. 5-ranked Panthers knocked off the No. 3-ranked team as DU defeated St. John's 10-8 on Friday in the first of three weekend games in St. Paul, Minn. The Panthers' schedule does not get any easier as Davenport takes on No. 2-ranked St. Thomas tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. The victory lifts DU's record to 10-2 on the season.

After the Panthers scored the first goal, an unassisted score by Cody Cross (Grand Rapids, Mich.), the Johnnies made a run, scoring three straight goals for a 3-1 score.

The Panthers erased the advantage quickly, notching two goals 10 seconds apart late in the first period to tie the score at 3-3. Davenport never trailed again for the rest of the game.

Second period goals by Oliver Wade (Burlington, Ontario) and Sam Carlson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) gave the Panthers a two goal advantage, 5-3, early in the period. The Johnnies and Panthers traded goals to end the half at 6-4 in favor of Davenport.

The second half started much similar to the start of the game. The Panthers extended their lead to 7-4 early in the third period, before the Johnnies, once again, tallied three straight goals, this time knotting the score at 7-7.

However, the Panthers made another run of their own. Carlson added his game high third goal of the game, giving DU an 8-7 lead, which they would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. Jordy Sayers and Cross notched goals just over a minute apart late in the third period for a 10-7 score and the largest lead of the game for the Panthers.

The fourth period saw very little scoring as the Panthers controlled possession to run down the clock. The Johnnies scored a late goal for the 10-8 final score.

The Panthers received a stellar performance from goalkeeper Zach Higgins (Courtice, Ontario), who made 12 saves and allowed eight goals.

Carlson led the Panther offensive attack with three goals. Cross, Sayers and Dominic Boggiano (Grand Rapids, Mich.) all added two goals for the Panthers.

The Panthers continue their three-game Minnesota road trip tomorrow with a contest against No. 2 St. Thomas at 7:00 p.m.
