Late Second Half Goal the Difference in 2-1 Loss to Graceland

Box Score Box Score

LAMONI, Iowa – After a first half that went scoreless, DU was unable to answer a late second half goal and would fall to host Graceland University 2-1. Ryan Duffy-McGirr was the lone Panther to record a goal as the Panthers start their season 0-2 on the year.

The first half was defensive dominated by both teams with each only allowing four shots on goal. Six and a half minutes into the second half at the 51 minute mark DU was able to get on the board with a goal from Ryan Duffy-McGirr into the right side of the net.

The excitement of the Davenport goal did not last for long as Graceland would be credited a goal less than one minute later which turned out to an owned goal on DU.

The score would remain tied for much of the second half until Graceland punched a goal into the left corner of the DU net at the 85 minute mark to seal the 2-1 victory and hand DU it's second straight loss.

Davenport is now 0-2 on the season and will resume play on September 3rd when they travel to Chicago, Ill. for a 7:00pm match-up against Robert Morris College. Live stats will be available at www.dupanthers.com.

Coach Whitehouse's Comments:

"Started very well. Had some very good changes early in the game but did not take advantage of them. Ryan scored a wondeful goal and Graceland scored against the run of play."
