SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After a commanding 2-0 lead at halftime DU was unable to lock up the win picking up a 2-2 double overtime tie against Sioux Falls. Davenport falls to 1-5-2 on the year with two ties in their last three games.
Davenport came out strong with a quick rebound goal from
Chase Burgess at the 5:39 mark to go up 1-0. The Panthers outshot the host team 8-4 in the first half adding another unassisted goal by
Carl Winterbottom right before the end of the first half.
With a 2-0 lead the shot domination would shift to Sioux Falls as they outshot DU 8-4 with four corner kicks compared to DU's three in the second half. Sioux Falls converted goals at the 73 and 84 minute mark to force overtime play.
The Panthers would have plenty of chances in the extra time as they had four corner kicks and six shots on the host goalie but none made it to the back of the net after the first overtime. The 2-2 score held up after a second overtime with DU having two more corner kick opportunities.
The Panthers will be in action again on Friday at 8:00 pm when they take on the Illinois Tech in Chicago. This will be the Panthers ninth consecutive game away from Grand Rapids.
