Box Score | Grashorn Audio Interview

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport fell 1-8 to a very good Olivet Nazarene team Friday afternoon. The loss is the Panthers second on the year and brings their record to 3-2 heading into Saturday's match against Grand Rapids CC.

The Panthers got off to a rough start in doubles. Victor Roland and Matheus Moreira de Carvalho dropped one doubles 3-8 and Christian Woods and Vitaly Shumilov fell 4-8 in two doubles. Davenport did have some hope going into singles when the third doubles team of Tyler Chambers and Eric Pell pulled out an 8-5 win.

Singles was all Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers took the first five singles matches in straight sets and prevented the any Panther from getting more than three games in any set. At six singles, Keaton Briggs put up the best fight in men's singles competition for DU. After dropping the first set in a tiebreak, Keaton battled back to win the second set 6-2 before falling 6-10 in the third set.

The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow when they host Grand Rapids CC.

Post-Match Quotes – Head Coach Patrick Grashorn

On match vs. Olivet Nazarene – “It's a tough match when we play Olivet. Last year I don't believe we won a match. Today, the guys played well. They got off to slow start in doubles. Our lone win was at three doubles which is a spark in the doubles lineup that I haven't seen yet. In singles we were a bit over-matched at the top and almost pulled out a couple matches at the bottom.”

On match tomorrow against GRCC – “GRCC is a big team, they have a lot of new players. They haven't played any matches yet so they will be a bit of a surprise. But I think if the guys play as they did today, we should be in good shape.”

Post-Match Notes

Tyler Chambers and Eric Pell improve to 4-1 as a doubles team this season…Tomorrow will be the first time that Davenport and GRCC compete head-to-head, last season Davenport won the GRCC Quad with 27 points
