CALEDONIA, Mich. - The men's tennis team finished up the regular season with a pair of home matches against Grand Valley State and Northwestern Ohio. It was a tough ending to the regular season as they fell 6-1 to both teams. Grand Valley State is No. 14 in NCAA Division II and UNOH is No. 11 in the NAIA.
The Lakers improved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the GLIAC on Friday in the match played at Grand Rapids Racquet Club. Davenport moved to 15-7 overall and 3-4 in the GLIAC. GVSU won all three doubles to earn the first point.
Daniel Calver was able to earn the team's point at one singles. He defeated Denys Zamaraiev by scores of 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 in comeback fashion. Two other matches did go three sets. Victor Lopes at two singles beat DU's
Reuben Bakker (6-2, 1-6, 7-5) and Chimo Minguez at six singles beat DU's
Bennet Dozeman (4-6, 6-1, 10-2).
The Racers improved to 12-5 overall and Davenport fell to 15-8 overall in Saturday's match at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The point was DU was captured after winning all three doubles matches.
Rudiger Dusselberg and
Jaden Bender at one doubles defeated Mete Koseoglu and Florian Smalto by a score of 7-6 (12-10).
Carlos Henriquez and
Jose Brenes at two doubles won 7-6 (7-5) over Francisco Perez and Carlos Hernandez. Dozeman and
Reid Reimink at three doubles won 6-2 against Lucas Grana and Julian Arisio.
UNOH took all six in singles as one of those did go three sets. At four singles, it was Brenes winning the first set (6-3) before dropping the next two (5-7, 9-11) against Smalto.
