Box Score HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Davenport came out and played solid defense as they defeated Grand Valley State University 6-1. The Panthers held the GVSU scoreless until the last minute of the game when the Lakers were finally able to get a puck past goaltender
John Cruse.
It took the Panthers less than two minutes to gain the lead on Friday night. Zach Feher gave Davenport an early lead in the first period after receiving a pass from
Jordan Steger. The Panthers lead remained at one for the majority of the first period until
Tommy Barabe wound up and blasted a slap shot past the GVSU goaltender to give DU a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
In the second period the Panthers continued to build their lead. Zach Feher rewarded
Jordan Steger for setting him up in the first period by finding Steger as he drove hard to the net. Davenport also received goals from
Daniel Hume and
Mike Soto in the second period as they put the game out of reach for the Lakers.
Davenport continued to dominate in the third period as they controlled the puck for most of the third period. Steger scored the final goal for the Panthers as they tried maintain the shutout for
John Cruse. Their efforts of keeping the shutout fell just short as GVSU was able to get by the Panther defense and score a goal with 20 seconds remaining.
