Explosive Second Period Key to D3 Hockey's 12-1 Victory Over Robert Morris

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Davenport looked to sweep the weekend series with Robert Morris at The Patterson Ice Center on Saturday night.  The Panthers also looked to build on the 100th career victory for coach Chris Green with the first win towards 200. DU got both in a 12-1 romp to improve to 22-9 on the season.

The Panthers came out of the opening face-off with determination and patience as they used timely passing and strong defensive play to go up 2-0 after the first period.  Mike Soto opened the scoring for the Panthers getting assists from Zachary Bodziak and Bryon GuerinGarrett Russell pushed the score to 2-0 on a one-timer off the assist from Zack Feher.

Early power play goal in second period by Zack Feher with an assist from Zachary Bodziak gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead, and from there the second period barrage was on.  The Panthers would net 6 goals overall in the second period.  The Panthers got two goals from Chad Ouellette on which the second was assisted by Aaron Warsen, Zack Feher would net his second goal of the night with help from John Brooks, as well as a goal for Garrett Garber on the second assist of the night from Zach Feher.  The highlight goal of the period came on a breakaway, shorthanded goal for Zachary Bodziak, his second goal of the game.

The third period saw more of the same from the Panthers as they would score 3 more times, twice from the stick of Ben Duthler in a matter of 30 seconds and once more from Zach Feher has he would complete the hat trick.  DU got a stellar performance from Andrew Habasevich in net tonight as he only allowed one goal midway through the third period.

Davenport was outstanding offensively tonight as they tallied 12 goals from 6 players, four of which had multiple goal games.

On preparing for post-season “We have focused on the two major things we can control and those are cardio and discipline.  The guys have worked especially hard on these to items and it is showing up in their play.”

Davenport is now has a 6-0 all-time record against Robert Morris-Chicago…Davenport will next host top ranked Hope College on February 3rd followed by a trip to Holland for a second consecutive match-up with the Dutch…The Panthers are now 22-9; 8-2 MCHC.  DU has four regular season games remaining before regional play begins February 16th -19th in Macomb, Mich.
