Men’s Soccer Travels to Dearborn Tuesday; Hosts Madonna Saturday

Weekly Notes | Live Stats at Dearborn | Game Central for Madonna

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming off a week in which they scored seven goals and pulled out a pair of wins, the Davenport Men's Soccer team will play one away from home and one under the DU lights this upcoming week. The Panthers, behind WHAC Offensive Player of the Week Henry Spees, travel to UM-Dearborn on Tuesday before returning for a night match on Saturday against defending WHAC Tournament champion Madonna University. Both matches are slated for 7:00pm kickoffs.

The men's soccer team has won six out of their last eight matches and they enter this week with two more league contests looking to stay right in the thick of the regular season race. Check out a brief look at both of their opponents.

Tuesday – at UM-Dearborn (1-4-1, 1-1-0 WHAC)
The Wolves are a newcomer to Men's Soccer in the conference after playing as a club team in the past.  The Wolves are hosting Davenport for their first ever home match as a varsity team and live stats will be available through the DU website. Dearborn posted their first win of the season this past weekend when they defeated fellow league newcomer Lawrence Tech 3-2. Gianni Di Poce leads the team with a pair of goals while three others have posted one goal on the season.

Saturday – vs. Madonna (4-5-1, 0-2-1 WHAC)
The Crusaders have had a rough start after being picked to win the conference in the preseason rankings. Last year's WHAC Tournament champions have been an up and down team as they started the season with a pair of losses before winning four of their next five matches but have struggled as of late going 0-2-1 to start league play. Their most recent match ended in a 1-2 defeat to Aquinas College on Saturday. Dane Laird leads the team with five goals and 13 points as MU has five different players with at least two goals on the season. Adrian Motta, who was earlier named the WHAC defensive POW, leads the team in goal as the senior has 37 saves on the season.

Davenport is in second place in the WHAC standings after most teams have played three league matches.  The Panthers have six points and sit one win (3 points) behind front-runner Cornerstone (9 points and a 3-0 record).
