2012 Schedule
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport University volleyball team returns to the court for a 5-match week including a conference road contest at Marygrove on Wednesday and a four match stretch at the Grand View Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend. Head coach
Megan Lenhart and her Lady Panthers are currently 18-5 and 5-2 in league play and are still within striking distance of the league title with two weeks to play.
Last week may have been the toughest test for the Davenport volleyball team in a two-match stretch as they took on nationally ranked Madonna and 4-time defending league champion Indiana Tech but after a 1-1 mark, the team is ready for a 5-match week including going up against some tough non-conference competition at the Grand View Tournament.
A Look at Marygrove – Wednesday, 7pm
Davenport and Marygrove face off in a conference match for the first time in school history after the two teams played last year before the Mustangs were approved by the WHAC. DU posted a 3-0 win on their home court but this match will be played in Detroit where MC is just 1-3 this year. The Mustangs have a balanced offense that features four players with 100 kills or more led by Katharina Hall with 178 and Kiara Cobbs with 167. Head coach Jamie Baker is in her first year on the sidelines for MC.
Davenport at the Grand View Tournament – Friday and Saturday – Des Moines, Iowa
Davenport will play in an invitational for the first time since the first day of September when they play at Grand View University on Friday and Saturday. Although the Panthers will not face the NAIA No. 13 host Vikings, DU will see plenty of talented teams that have posted a combined record of 66-38. Davenport will face three schools from the CCAC including their first two matches vs. Trinity Christian (20-5, 12-1 CCAC) and St. Xavier (21-8, 11-1 CCAC). Both teams have been in the receiving votes section during the 2012 campaign.
On Saturday, DU will first take on Olivet Nazarene (6-21, 5-7 CCAC) who is traditionally a consistent in the NAIA Top-25 poll but the Tigers are having a down year but can still be a force behind head coach Brenda Williams. The Panthers then face Jamestown College (S.D.) (19-4, 4-1 A.I.I.) who are appearing the RV section for the first time this season. The Jimmies and Panthers will face off against each other first the first time in school history in the final match on Saturday.
Davenport is looking to reach the 20-win milestone for the third consecutive year under
Megan Lenhart and they continue to fight their first ever Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference title as they sit two games back of front runner Madonna and 1.5 games back of Northwestern Ohio.
