Box Score

DETROIT, Mich. – A goal by Marygrove in the final eight minutes of the match today doomed the Panthers as they fell 3-2 in their regular season finale to the Mustangs. Looking to close out the regular season on a high note, the Panthers were unable to overcome a late goal scored in the 82nd minute as they fell 3-2 to Marygrove. The loss, the third straight for the Panthers, keeps DU as the seventh seed in next week's league tournament that will determine the NAIA National Tournament participant.

The host Mustangs got the scoring started at the 15:22 mark when Abdoullie Jallow scored the first of his two goals on the afternoon on a rebound off the post. DU tied the score up just six minutes later when Omar Mansah scored his second of the year on an assist from Donal Lynch. The frantic offensive pace continued in the first half as Marygrove re-took the lead on Jallow's second goal and the score would remain 2-1 at half.

After a few good opportunities were not successful in the early parts of the second, DU got the equalizer from Ryan Duffy-McGirr as Stuart Collins crossed a perfect ball for Duffy-McGirr to put away. Both teams then got a little bit defensive late in the match but the league's leading scorer Jordan Berry posted the game winner with just 7:10 remaining to give MC the win.

Mirza Harambasic finished with three saves as he falls to 1-5-1 on the year in net for the Panthers. DU will face rival Aquinas in the quarterfinals of the WHAC Tournament which begins on Saturday, November 3, The time has not yet been released by the conference.

Post-Match Quotes - Head coach Chris Hughes

“Overall we are getting opportunities and not putting them away, but at the same time, we need to eliminate some mistakes. We are putting ourselves in position to win some games but just some small mistakes have allowed the other teams to get chances and they have taken them. During tournament time, it's a chance to start with a clean slate and a time to eliminate those mistakes and capitalize on our opportunities.”
