Davenport Trounces Saginaw Valley State 5-0

Box Score UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Byron Guerin led the Panthers to a 5-0 rout of conference rival Saginaw Valley on Saturday night. Guerin turned in a four point performance as he scored a goal and set up three other goals. Davenport turned in a stellar defensive performance as they limited the cardinals to 12 shots on net to help John Curse pick up his second shutout of the season.

Jake Otto got the scoring started for the Panthers in the first period. Otto netted his third goal of the season on an assists from Byron Guerin. Otto's goal stood to be the lone goal in the first stanza.

In the second period the Panthers knocked in two more goals. John Deal picked up the first goal of the period on assists from Otto and Branden Burton. Later in the period Byron Guerin scored his second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Jake Hambidge.

Davenport didn't let up with the 3-0 lead and added two more goals in the final period. Branden Burton gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead in the third as he picked up his first goal of the season. A few minutes later Donald Sund finished up the scoring as Guerin picked up his third assist of the night.

The Panthers defense did a great job of holding the Cardinals offense in check. “The defense played together tonight and did a great job limiting Saginaw's shot opportunities” said Head Coach Chris Green. Davenport held Saginaw Valley to 12 shots as John Cruse picked up his second shutout of the season.

On Guerin's four point game “Guerin showed a ton of  leadership tonight. Getting that production in a big game, against a good team, was huge. We will be looking for more great games from him as we move forward”

Branden Burton and John Deal each recorded their first career goals at Davenport in tonight's game…The Panthers dominated the shot column as they recorded 38 shots compared to Saginaw's 12…Davenport will be back on the ice next Thursday as they take on Adrian College-Black in Adrian Michigan.
