Davenport Posts 6-0 Shutout Over Grand Valley State

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  Davenport picked up their ninth straight head to head win over Grand Valley State Friday night as they shutout the Lakers 6-0. John Cruse picked up his fourth shutout of the season as he stopped all 21 shots that he faced. Branden Burton added two goals and an assist to lead the Panthers on offense. The Panthers and Lakers will meet Saturday night at Grand Valley State at 8:00 pm.

The Panthers and Lakers started off the game with a scoreless first period. Davenport controlled most of the play outshooting GVSU 16-5, but went 0-2 on the power play in  the opening stanza.

The scoring began in the second period as Garrett Russell blasted a shot from the point off of the goaltenders shoulder and into the net. Later in the period Davenport extended their lead as Branden Burton put back a rebound off of a shot by Kyle McConnell. Soon after, the Panthers were unable to capitalize on a 5 minute power play as the Lakers penalty kill stood strong.

In the third period, Davenport came out and quickly doubled their lead. Less than four minutes into the period Zack Feher and Branden Burton scored back to back goals just 35 seconds apart. The Panthers added two more goals in the final stanza as they threw shots at net through traffic. Jordan Crawford pick up the first goal as his shot from the point went untouched. Bryon Guerin picked up the final goal on the power play as he deflected a shot from the point by Crawford.

John Cruse picked up his 14th win of season in the shutout win. Cruse recorded 21 saves on the night. The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Georgetown Ice Arena at 8:00 pm.

The Panthers are now 9-4 all-time against Grand Valley and have won the last nine meetings…Davenport went 1-6 on the power play while holding the Lakers to 0-4…DU outshot Grand Valley 57-21.
