Davenport Sweeps Grand Valley State With 5-2 Win

Box Score HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -  Davenport improved to 10-1 in conference play with a 5-2 win over Grand Valley State on Saturday night. Leading 2-1 after the first period, the Panthers broke the game open in the second as Jordan Steger scored two goals. Blake Damerow, John Deal, and Garrett Garber also scored for Davenport.

The second meeting between the Panthers and was a physical battle. DU took a 2-0 lead 12:46 into the first period as Blake Damerow and John Deal picked up goals. Grand Valley quickly cut the two goal deficit in half as they scored less than a minute later.

The second period saw limited 5-on-5 play as both teams committed multiple penalties. Davenport was able to battle through a 5 minute penalty and pick up two goals. Jordan Steger picked up both goals as he knocked in a rebound and then scored a shorthanded goal. The Lakers picked up a goal late in the period to pull within two goals.

In the third period the Panthers buckled down on defense to protect their two goal lead. Davenport held the Lakers off the scoreboard in the third and picked up a goal of their own. Garrett Garber scored his first goal of the season as he ripped a shot from the point.

Davenport has won 10 straight meetings between the Panthers and Lakers…Davenport improves to 10-1 in the MCHC and GVSU drops to 6-3…Davenport will play Wayne State next weekend in a home and home series.
