Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- In the first all-time meeting between Davenport and Aquinas it was the Panthers that came out on top with a 6-1 victory. Davenport used a balanced scoring attack as six different players scored for the Panthers. The Panthers are now 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the MCHC West.
Despite coming off of a three week break, the Panthers came out strong in the first period. DU jumped out to an early lead on a goal by
Blake Damerow. Later in the period
Cody Mathieu extended the lead after scoring on a delayed penalty call.
The two teams skated evenly for most of the second period. In the final minute of the period the Panthers were able to capitalize on a 2-on-1 break as
Zack Feher set up
Jordan Steger for his team leading 14
th goal of the season.
Not satisfied with a 3-0 lead, the Panthers continued to apply pressure on the Saints. Davenport added three more goals in the final stanza.
Zack Feher,
Patrick Martin, and
Jake Otto each netted a goal. With around five minutes remaining in the third the Saints were finally able to beat goaltender
John Cruse. Cruse picked up his 11
th win of the season as he stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced.
Post-Game Notes
Davenport is one of two teams in the MCHC West that are unbeaten in conference play. Coming into tonight's game Hope College sat atop the division with a 7-0 record. The Panthers are now 5-0 in conference play.
