GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The D3 hockey team will finish off the calendar year with a home-and-home series against Wayne State University this weekend. The Panthers will travel to Detroit on Friday night for a game at 8:30 pm and will host the Warriors Saturday at Patterson Ice Center at 7:00 pm. Here is a closer look at the weekend ahead.

THE GAMES: Friday, December 21, 2012 • Detroit, Mich • 8:30 p.m. • Saturday, December 22, 2012 • Patterson Ice Center • 7:00 p.m.
PANTHERS VERSUS WARRIORS: This is the first meeting all-time between the Davenport and Wayne State.
WEEKEND RECAP: Friday, December 14 – The host Panthers defeated Grand Valley State 6-0. John Cruse picked up his fourth shutout of the season and Branden Burton score 2 goals to help push the Panthers past the Lakers. Saturday, December 15 – At GVSU, the Panthers outscored the Lakers 2-1 in each of the first period and picked up a goal in the third to win 5-2. Jordan Steger picked up two goals to lead Davenport.
SCOUTING WAYNE STATE: The Warriors have 13 losses on the year but have had a tough schedule. Six of the 13 losses came against opponents from higher divisions. The Warriors have two losses to D1 UM-Dearborn, D2 Ferris State, and D1 Eastern Michigan, each loss was by two goals or less. Wayne State enters the weekend on a three game winning streak after sweeping IU-PFW and shutting our Grand Valley State.
The Panthers will look to shutdown Wayne States Bill Coole. With 15 goals and 10 assists, Coole has been involved in 40.9% (25/61) the Warriors goals this season. Goaltender Trevor Sattelmeier has had the most starts in net for the Warriors this season and has posted and 4-7 record with a 3.69 GAA.
