Box Score DETROIT, Mich. – After a sloppy first period the Panthers put in six goals in the second period in route to an 8-0 shutout.
Donald Sund picked up a hat trick and an assist and
Jake Otto added two goals and two assists to pace the Panthers offense.
John Cruse earned his fifth shutout of the year as he recorded 20 saves on the night. The Panthers and Warriors will meet again Saturday night at Patterson Ice Center with opening faceoff scheduled for 7:00 pm.
For the second time in three games the Panthers failed to score in the first period as they registered only 9 shots on net and committed 8 turnovers in a sloppy first period.
In the second period the Davenport came out looking like a totally different team. The Panthers got on the score board with a power play goal as
Donald Sund took an entry pass from
Jordan Steger and lifted a shot top shelf. A few minutes later it was déjà vu when
Patrick Martin received a lead pass from
Zack Feher and put a shot up over the shoulder of the Warrior goaltender.
The Panthers continued to find their way behind the Warriors defense in the second period. In a three minute stretch
Donald Sund and
Jake Otto received long stretch passes and both beat the goalie five hole. Eight minutes Later Otto added his second goal of the game on the power play as he put back a rebound off of a shot by
Cody Mathieu.
Kyle McConnell put in the final goal of the period with a shot from the blue line that deflected of a defenders stick and into the net.
With a big lead built up Davenport focused on maintaining the shutout in the third.
Donald Sund completed his hat trick late in the period on a breakaway goal.
Branden Burton followed up Sund's goal two minutes later with a breakaway goal of his own to finish up the scoring.

Davenport has posted seven shutouts so far this season. Last season the Panthers only recorded 2 shutouts…Davenport outshot Wayne State 38-20.
