Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – With the opportunity to clinch the programs first MCHC regular season title the Panthers fell 5-0 at the Hands of Hope College. Davenport finished with an 11-3 record in the MCHC, the best in the programs four year history. Davenport will wrap up regular season play next weekend against Michigan State.
In the first period of play Davenport struggled to connect a string of passes and get their offense going. Just over eight minutes into the period Hope scored their first goal of the night. After the puck took a bad bounce over a Panthers defender, Hope forward Andrew Haggerty scored on a breakaway. Four minutes later Justin Glick found the back of the net to give Hope a 2-0 lead. Davenport had a good scoring chance in the first as
Sam Waldhart cut back into the middle, but his shot just missed and rang off the post.
The Panthers struggles continued in the second period as they couldn't get the puck to bounce their way. Glick and Haggerty both added their second goals of the game to extend the lead to 4-0. Davenport's penalty kill was busy in the second period as they had to kill two minor penalties as well as one major penalty.
The penalty kill almost got Davenport on the score board.
Aaron Warsen deflected a pass and had a clear path on net. As Warsen reached back to fire the puck, a Hope defender got his stick in at the last second and Warsen's stick shattered up into the protective netting. A minute later Hope capitalized on a 5-3 power play to reach the final score of 5-0.
Davenport will finish up their regular season schedule next weekend with a home and home series with Michigan State. The Panthers host the Spartans at Patterson Ice Center on Friday night and then travel to East Lansing on Saturday.
