CLERMONT, Fla. - The bats started to warm up on the hottest day in Florida this week as DU picked up a pair of wins over Saint Anselm (8-0) and SUNY Canton (8-1).  The two victories lift DU's overall record to 9-1 as they have won their last seven games.  The Panthers have two more games on Saturday at 11:00 and 1:00 to conclude their week in Clermont.

After a quiet start to the week, the Davenport offense came alive in the opening game on Friday as the Lady Panthers used a big fourth inning to defeat NCAA DII foe Saint Anselm to take the three game series from the Hawks. Katie Cornman posted a 3-3 game in which the senior finished with a pair of doubles and her first homerun of the season.

Davenport, leading just 1-0 entering the fourth inning, got the two-run shot from Cornman to open the scoring and then tacked on four more with two outs to lead 7-0.  A Kayla Gonyea RBI single to score Cornman in the fifth was all DU needed to post the mercy rule on the Hawks.

Karlee Despres got the win on the mound in her third appearance of the year as the senior went four innings finishing with seven strikeouts and giving up only three hits.

Game two featured a breakout game for freshman Ashleigh Blovsky as she picked up her first collegiate hit in the second inning.  The outfielder from Brown City launched a ball over the right center field fence for a two-run homerun to start the DU scoring.  Ashleigh later doubled as DU posted three runs in the second and two more in the third.

Sam Cole picked up her fifth win of the year as the junior posted 11 strikeouts while giving up only 6 hits on the day.

DU will conclude their Florida trip on Saturday as they have two more games at 11:00am against UNC Pembroke and 1:00pm vs. St. Xavier (Ill.).

Post-Game Comments - Ronda Varnesdeel

On her team's overall performance for the day: "In our first eight games we still had not played a complete game on the offense or defensive end and in game one today we finally put everything together. At the plate we made adjustments and we stayed solid on the defensive end."
