JACKSON, Tenn. – On day one of the Union University tournament, Davenport lost to No. 24 Saint Xavier University and No. 17 Union University to fall to 10-4 overall on the season. DU was unable to hold on to a two run lead in the seventh falling 4-5 to Saint Xavier and carried their sloppy seventh inning performance on against Union falling 2-10 in six innings.
Davenport faced off against No. 24 Saint Xavier for the third time in just two weeks and found the same results as when they last met in Florida, falling 4-5. After going down 0-2 early, Davenport picked up a run in the third and then tied the game in the sixth 2-2 after a
Tami Weber homerun.
Kayla Gonyea and
Amber Getty led off the seventh with back to back singles and where moved into scoring position on a
Morgan Greenfield sacrifice bunt. Freshman
Paige Sant'Angelo then singled to centerfield to score both Gonyea and Getty to give DU the 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Saint Xavier put together a three run rally to hand Davenport their second straight loss coming at a score of 4-5.
In their second game of the day against No. 17 Union University the Panthers allowed 10 runs, only three of those earned, in six innings to suffer their second loss of the day at 2-10.
Morgan Greenfield's single in the third accounted for Davenport's only two runs in the contest as the Panthers committed three errors and only produced four hits in the game.

Sam Cole took the loss in both games for DU falling to 7-4 overall on the season.
The Panthers will continue play at the Union University tournament tomorrow taking on Midway College at 10:00am and No. 21 Columbia at 2:00pm. Live video and stats will be provided for both games at www.dupanthers.com

Davenport is now 1-2 on the year against No. 24 Saint Xavier…All but one of Davenport's losses have come by a margin of just one run…The mercy by Union University today is the first time since 2/19/2011 that the Panthers have been run ruled…The loss to Union breaks DU's 16 game streak of road victories
