LIMA, Ohio. – Davenport entered the second day of a weekend series with an opportunity to leave town with 3 wins. Game one went well for the Panthers and starting pitcher
Drew Kennedy as the Panthers won 5-3. Game two saw a rocky start for the Panthers and game that got away from DU to the tune of a 10-1 defeat.
Game One
Davenport jumped out quickly on the Racers scoring three runs in the first three innings of the game.
Cam Cooper,
Jason Pierce, and
Brandon Bongard all went 2 for 5 from the plate combining to score 2 runs and drive in two RBI.
Jotham Woo also played well offensively going 2 for 4, scored a run and had one RBI. The Panthers however could have scored much more as they left 11 runners on base in game one.
Drew Kennedy and
Eric Cummings would both have a double and
Brandon Bongard would triple in spots that should have allowed them to score.
Drew Kennedy was the Panthers' starting pitcher for game one and pitched very well. Kennedy would go 7.2 innings giving up five hits, 3 runs (1 earned), walked one and struck out one. Kennedy helped himself by fielding his position well, twice he began a one-six-three double play to end a Racer rally. Kennedy would help himself from the batter's box as well going 2 for 4 with one RBI. Kennedy got help from his fellow pitchers as
Corey Anderson and
Ryan Butzer would come in to close out the game.
Anderson came in to get the final out of the eighth inning when Kennedy seemed to run out of gas. Butzer would earn the save going one inning giving up two ground balls and a fly out to close out the game.
Game Two
The Panthers saw the Racers hitters able to drop multiple hits into just the right spots throughout game two. The Panthers and starter
Cory Hammond gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning which would be more than enough to send the Panthers to a loss in game two.
Davenport would use six pitchers in game two as the Racers of UNOH would put 17 hits on the board to score 10 runs. Starter
Cory Hammond went one inning giving up six hits, four runs (three earned), no walks and striking out one. UNOH would go on to plate three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to round out their 10 runs for the game.
Offensively the Panthers were only able to put four hits on the board in game two and those two hits came from two Panthers hitters.
Cam Cooper went 2 for 3 with an RBI and
Eric Cummings went 2 for 2 while scoring a run.
